Remember Velma of Scooby Doo fame? Scooby Doo was my favorite show as a kid in the 1980s. I believe it fueled my love of the mystery genre, from Nancy Drew to Agatha Christie to Gillian Flynn. Despite my love of the Hanna-Barbera delight that was the cartoon, I’ve been reluctant to embrace the fact that I’m quite similar to Velma.
Not only do I look like her, in that I have brown hair with bangs, wear glasses, and tend to be on the short side, I share her interest in learning about obscure things. I got my master’s in library and information science several years ago because I realized that I didn’t really want to specialize in any one subject. Knowing a little bit about a lot feeds my curiosity. My husband knows that he just has to ask me a question, and I’ll immediately hop online to find the answer. Thank goodness for the internet, or my personal library would be even larger than it currently is!
My husband led me to this blog title, as he has been trying to get me to use Velma’s “Jinkies!” catchphrase ever since we first met, as I tend to get excited when I find an answer or discover something new. Recently I’ve been focusing on becoming a healthier person, so I anticipate much of the content will revolve around running and healthy eating. But just as I chose library science as to not limit myself, I’m sure I won’t limit this space to being a fitness blog or a food blog. Instead, I’ll try to put my discoveries from all parts of my life on my blog so that they might offer others a “Jinkies!” moment.
